This program builds on a training initiative that, for the past 30 years, has brought together the expertise of the University of Montpellier to address specific issues related to coastal areas and the sea.

Overview of the Coastal Water Management Master's Program

The goal of this specialization is to provide multidisciplinary theoretical and practical training in the planning, management, and protection of coastal and marine areas. It draws on courses in science, law, geography, and economics. It serves a dual purpose: professional practice and research.

The training focuses in particular on the following areas:


– maritime professions and coastal activities (fishing,
aquaculture, shellfish farming, etc.)
– socio-economic actors in the coastal sector
– the administrative and legislative framework for coastal
and maritime
– methods for managing and protecting coastal ecosystems

– the engineering fundamentals of construction,
or rehabilitation of coastal or port facilities
– specific risks associated with the coastal sector
